One kilometer away from Shengshui Chan Courtyard, hidden in the lush forest is a temple, namely Zhongfeng Temple. During the Jin Dynasty, Taoism prevailed on Mount Emei. This place was Qianming Taoist Temple, and Taoists from all over the country gathered here. At the end of the Jin Dynasty, Taoism declined while Buddhism thrived. The Taoists in the temple invited Master Mingguo of Buddhism to live in the temple and changed the Taoist temple into Zhongfeng Temple.
During the Northern Song Dynasty, Huang Tingjian, the prefect of Xuzhou, once came here to “practice meditation”. Zhongfeng Temple was destroyed by fire in the 43rd year of the Shunzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1704 AD). Although it was rebuilt later, it still did not reach its original scale. The existing buildings include the mountain gate, the Main Hall, the Samantabhadra Hall, etc. The Buddha statues are solemn, presenting a peaceful land. The Bhikkhu class of the Emei Mountain Buddhist Academy is located here. When tourists come here, they often hear the chanting of scriptures echoing through the courtyard. The opening hours are subject to the actual opening situation on the day.
