Yangpingguan Taoist Temple is located in Yangping Village (formerly Guanghui Village), Xinxing Town, Pengzhou City. It was first built at the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty. It was the first place where Zhang Daoling propagated Taoism and is ranked first among the twenty-four Taoist administrative areas. It holds an important position in the development and dissemination of Taoist culture.
Yangpingguan Taoist Temple gets its name from the mountain, namely Yangping Mountain in Xinxing Town. The Yangping administrative area is surrounded by mountains and faces the river. The pine and cypress trees are thick like canopies, and the Xiangshan Mountain on the bank of the Jian River is opposite like a watchtower. Here was once the location of Qushang, the first capital of the ancient Shu Kingdom. Danjing Mountain to the south of the administrative area is also an excellent place for quiet cultivation and alchemy. The environment is quiet, secluded, illusory and misty. It was praised by Wang Bo as a fairyland on Penglai and a treasured land of the fragrant city.
