The Colorful Pond is located in the southern section of Zechawa Gully. It is an especially colorful pond in Jiuzhaigou and does not freeze throughout the year. It is famous for its beauty, variety of colors, purity, and transparency. Due to the high content of calcium carbonate in the water, the lake water shows mottled light and shadow. When there is sunlight, it is a great time for shooting. Different colors will appear at different positions and angles.
The water in the Colorful Pond comes from Changhai at a higher place. Aquatic plant communities such as Spirogyra, Chara, and small ferns grow in the water. There are also herbaceous plants such as reeds, Equisetum ramosissimum, and Juncus effusus. The chlorophyll contained in these plants varies in depth. In the lake water rich in calcium carbonate, different colors appear. As a result, the upper half of the Colorful Pond is turquoise blue, the lower half is orange-red, the left side is sky blue, and the right side is olive green, presenting a colorful scene.
