‘Chengdu Story’ staged at Karamay朵 Theatre in Dongjiao Memory sets the story background in the Republic of China era. It integrates traditional folk arts such as long-spouted kettle performance, Sichuan martial arts, face-changing, fire-spitting, lantern opera, shadow puppetry, puppet show, and Bashu erhu. Through immersive stage performances, the audience can personally experience the charm of Sichuan folk culture.
The opening of ‘Chengdu Story’ deeply restores the urban and rural scenes of an old Chengdu teahouse. The immersive street view experience takes people back to Chengdu a hundred years ago, allowing them to feel the joys, sorrows, laughter, and tears of that era. This is the softness and magnanimity of Chengdu’s urban culture. It is open-minded and accepts foreign cultures with a broad mind. Sichuan local operas have absorbed the best of various cultures in the continuous integration and developed their own unique styles. Intangible cultural heritage is the civilization passed down through history and requires inheritors from generation to generation. ‘Chengdu Story’ is a gift from intangible cultural heritage inheritors to old Chengdu.
