The Best Place to Enjoy the Moon on Mount Emei – Washing Elephants Pool

The better place to view the moon on Mount Emei is the Washing Elephants Pool. Above the pool, there are still mountains, and mountains are also behind it. Only the front is open, and there are many trees nearby. Although the Golden Summit is high, it has no foil. One can only look at the moon towards the sky. Below the Washing Elephants Pool, there are overlapping peaks and too many trees, and the scenery is not as perfect as that of viewing the moon at the Washing Elephants Pool. Therefore, “Moonlit Night at the Elephant Pool” has become one of the ten scenic spots of Emei, somewhat comparable to “Autumn Moon over the Calm Lake” in the West Lake.
Whenever it is a moonlit night, the clouds disperse and the mist clears. The distant sky is a clear blue, and all the mountains are silent. The autumn wind brings a refreshing feeling. A bright moon is obliquely embedded in the cloudless blue sky. Only the majestic and upright fir forests rustle, whispering softly. The moonlight shines through the thick and dark green jungle. The Great Hero Hall, Half Moon Terrace, Washing Elephants Pool, First Joy Pavilion, and Moon Chanting Building are immersed in the hazy moonlight, solemn and serene.

Under the moonlight, the ancient temple resembles the head of a lying elephant. Against the blue sky, the silhouette is clear: the main hall is like the forehead, the two side rooms are like the ears, and the stone steps of the Sky-Piercing Slope below the Half Moon Terrace are like the elongated elephant trunk.
