The 2024 Chengdu World Horticultural Exposition Introduction

The World Horticultural Exposition is an international exhibition recognized by the International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH) based in the Netherlands.
This World Horticultural Exposition is scheduled to be held from April 26 to October 28, 2024. With the theme of “Park City, Happy Chengdu”, it adheres to the concepts of green and low-carbon, conservation and sustainability, and sharing and inclusiveness. During the venue construction, as much of the existing main vegetation as possible will be retained. Making full use of the favorable plant growth conditions in Chengdu, native tree species will be the main focus. Combined with the characteristics of the exhibition gardens, characteristic plants such as herbs, fruits and vegetables, roses, crabapples, and crape myrtles will be displayed to create diverse plant communities and plant landscapes.

From the theme to the planning and design, the Chengdu World Horticultural Exposition always adheres to the three principles of “green and low-carbon, conservation and sustainability, and sharing and inclusiveness”, which is in line with the construction concept of the park city. It will be a “green, harmonious and ecological” World Horticultural Exposition.

Green is the urban background color that Chengdu has nurtured for thousands of years. With the core concept of “production, ecology and life”, the construction and later operation of the World Horticultural Exposition will be fully integrated into the Jiangxi River area. Green, environmental protection, circular and energy-saving technologies, as well as low-carbon, natural and ecological materials will be comprehensively adopted, emphasizing continuous retention and long-term application. Integrating the World Horticultural Exposition into the urban public space, more parks and green spaces will be built to increase the happiness index and sense of gain of the people.

It will be a World Horticultural Exposition with “Chengdu’s own characteristics”. Firstly, it integrates Chengdu’s unique history and regional culture, including Chengdu’s garden horticulture culture, people’s living culture, and folk art. The World Horticultural Exposition held here will be a grand feast highlighting Chengdu’s culture and attitude towards life. Secondly, it highlights the advantages of the park city in ecological environment construction.

Since ancient times, Chengdu has been an ecological flower city. We will focus on people’s living experience in the city, actively promote the construction of the park city, and show the citizens an ecological scene of harmony between man and nature. Thirdly, the planning layout and operation system of the World Horticultural Exposition highlight innovation. Emphasis is placed on the protection and utilization of water, fields, forests and houses with the characteristics of western Sichuan on the venue, so that the construction of the World Horticultural Exposition can achieve low consumption and sustainability.

In terms of operation, with multi-party participation and the integration of intelligent concepts, a diverse tour system is planned to be formed, and new technologies and new means are innovatively used to achieve resource aggregation and sharing.
