Sichuan Science and Technology Museum – A Fun and Educational Place

The Sichuan Science and Technology Museum is an enjoyable and informative venue located in the north of Tianfu Square in the heart of Chengdu, spanning four floors. The museum comprises over 20 permanent exhibition halls and three themed exhibitions, including Aerospace, Mechanics, Virtual World, Robotics, Natural Phenomena, Information Technology, Life Sciences, and Ecology and Environment. On the first floor, visitors can explore the Aerospace Exhibition, Ertan Hydropower Model, Dujiangyan Irrigation System Model, and a Surrounding 4D Cinema.


The second floor features the Mechanics Hall, Electricity and Magnetism Hall, Robotics Hall, Virtual World Hall, and Time Tunnel. The third floor houses the Sound and Light Hall, Ecology and Environment Hall, and Natural Phenomena Hall. The fourth floor is primarily dedicated to youth with science exhibits, including a Youth Science Exhibition Hall. The construction of the Sichuan Science and Technology Museum has received support from multiple research institutions in Sichuan and the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Chengdu branch, with 14 units donating related exhibits and images worth over 15 million yuan.


Notably, many of the exhibits in the museum are ‘Made in Chengdu’ scientific and technological exhibits, such as those from the J-7III aircraft, WP-6 turbojet engine, dynamic simulation hydraulic models, and dinosaur models. Opening hours are Tuesday to Sunday from 09:20 to 17:00; closed all day on Mondays; and open on New Year’s Day, Spring Festival, Qingming Festival, Labor Day, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, and National Day from 09:20 to 17:00.


Preferential policies include free admission for seniors aged 60 and above, active military personnel with relevant identification, firefighters with national comprehensive fire and rescue team identification, veterans with preferential certificates, and the dependents of martyrs, military personnel who died in service, and those who died of illness, with the appropriate identification. People with disabilities can enter free of charge with a disability certificate (blind and severely physically, intellectually, or mentally disabled individuals are allowed one accompanying caregiver without an appointment).


Additional notes: 1. The aforementioned individuals do not need online reservations and can handle entry at the iCenter dedicated channel. 2. Except for special instructions, the above policies are only for the individual; accompanying children and family members need to make reservations. Service facilities include a parking lot, luggage storage, stroller rental, wheelchair rental, and a nursing room located near the restrooms.
