Sichuan Chengdu Museum of Life Mysteries: Explore the Wonders of Life

The Museum of Life Mysteries unveils the evolution of vertebrates through the display of unique and fascinating plastinated biological specimens, providing an authentic, comprehensive, and systematic revelation of life’s journey, conveying real and exciting information about life. The exhibition has been rated as one of the top ten cultural projects worth visiting in New York by The New York Times.

Plastinated biological specimens are preserved using the world’s advanced biological specimen preservation technology—plastination, which replaces water and lipids in biological tissues with polymers under specific conditions. These specimens are characterized by being dry, odorless, harmless, durable, long-lasting, and easy to study, offering significant advantages in scientific research and popular science education.

Professor Sui Hongjin, the founder of the Museum of Life Mysteries, led the museum team in compiling and publishing the ‘Mysteries of Life Series’ (‘Darwin’s Evidence’, ‘Deep Sea Shadows’, ‘The Mysteries of the Human Body’), which won the national science and technology progress award (popular science category) in 2019. Established on December 26, 2015, the Chengdu Museum of Life Mysteries is the only museum of its kind in Southwest China and has been recognized as a science popularization base at the provincial, city, and district levels in Sichuan, as well as a social practice education base for adolescents in Chengdu.

Our museum, with the theme ‘Exploring the Mysteries of Life, Discovering the Beauty of Life’, integrates science, art, humanities, and philosophical thinking, inspiring children and adults’ curiosity and desire to learn about life from a unique perspective. It guides people to observe, think, and actively explore, helping to establish the concept of ‘harmonious coexistence between humans and nature’.

Since the implementation of the ‘double reduction’ policy by the Ministry of Education, we have fully leveraged our advantages in science popularization and actively promoted social practice education activities for primary and secondary school students, developing 50 science popularization research courses themed ‘Life Safety and Health Education’, covering medicine, biology, and emergency prevention.
