Shengshui Chanyuan (Shenshui Pavilion) – A Historical and Spiritual Destination in Emei Mountain

Shengshui Chanyuan, originally known as the villa of Ming Dynasty’s Governor Wu Yongxian, was renamed Shengshui An during the Wanli reign and later changed to Shenshui Pavilion during the Shunzhi reign. The complex consists of four exquisitely built halls: Guanyin Hall, Maitreya Hall, Mahavira Hall, and Samantabhadra Hall.
There is an inscription that reads: ‘The holy water silently nourishes like the Anotu, and the wise enter the pure jade spring from afar.’

Outside the pavilion lies the Shenshui Pool, a clear spring where the water is transparent and seemingly inexhaustible all year round. Under the scorching sun of midsummer, the cold air is palpable. In the depths of winter, when the surrounding mountains and temples are covered in snow, this pool still radiates warmth, touching the hearts of all who visit, and is revered as a sacred spring in the mountains. The opening hours are subject to the daily operational status.
