Shanjue Temple (Erping) was formerly known as Songhuangping. It is located behind Baoguo Temple, with an altitude of 620 meters. According to Taiyi’s book, Emperor Xuanyuan of the Yellow Emperor sought the Tao from Tianzhen Huangren. There used to be “Songhuangguan” and “Shoudaotai” on the ping. The temple was first built during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty. First, Master Daode built “Xianglong Courtyard” on the ping.
It is said that when Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty visited Emei Mountain, the monks in the temple changed Xianglong Courtyard to Shanjue Temple to avoid the taboo of the “true dragon emperor”. During the Renwu year of Kangxi (1702), Emperor Kangxi inscribed the plaque “Shanjue Temple”, and the name Xianglong was then abolished. The architectural layout of Shanjue Temple faces east from the west. The whole temple consists of the mountain gate, the front hall (Samantabhadra Hall), the middle hall (Bhaisajyaguru Hall), the back hall (Great Hero Hall) and the wing rooms. The mountain gate and the back hall buildings are modern restorations. They are all of the through-tenon beam frame structure, with a two-entry courtyard, a single-slope roof, a hip roof, a small green tile roof surface, a plain platform base, sitting on a three-level platform, and the height difference between the front and back is about 2 meters. The opening hours are subject to the opening conditions on the day.
