Shangshan·Dujiangyan: A Grand Show Celebrating Water Heritage

Shangshan·Dujiangyan is a large-scale intangible cultural heritage show that uses water as the link, medium, and central theme to connect all elements, showcasing the history, culture, and notable figures of Dujiangyan through water. The stage design concept: The stage eaves are inspired by the ‘Wannian Tai’, and the background screen features a unique sea water pattern, with LED backdrops that serve both as a barrier and to enhance the stage’s aesthetic appeal.

Renowned director Leilei, who has led professional teams in various prestigious events such as the ‘2023 Chengdu World University Games Executive Director’, ‘2019 World Police Games Executive Director’, ‘Chinese University Students’ Television Festival Opening Ceremony Director’, ‘Chinese Extreme Sports Conference Director’, ‘Chinese Internet Audio-Visual Ceremony Director’, and ‘Sanxingdui Grand Sacrifice Director’, has collaborated with domestic professionals in music, video, lighting, and wire work to produce an impressive large-scale immersive stage play.

This play recreates the legendary history of Li Bing and his son leading the construction of the ancient Dujiangyan irrigation system 2279 years ago, celebrating the extraordinary achievements of great men. Without Li Bing and his son’s efforts to control the water disasters, there would be no Dujiangyan that has benefited future generations, no fertile Chengdu Plain with abundant resources and controlled water and drought; nor would there be the peculiar and magnificent ancient civilization centered around Sanxingdui in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, nor the prosperous and affluent present.

The play embodies the unique cultural connotations of Dujiangyan, drawing from stories such as ‘Erlang Shen’s brave fight against the Jiaolong’, ‘Fire Attack on Yulei to open the treasure bottle’, ‘Li Bing and his son repairing the ancient dam’, ‘A hundred aspects of spicy life’, ‘Qingcheng Tai Chi stands out’, and ‘Spitting fire and face-changing magic’… It uses cultural dissemination to vividly present ‘Dujiangyan’s rich culture, praying for blessings and safety’.

The entire performance is interwoven with unique skills such as wire work, martial arts, face-changing, and magic, providing visitors with a feast for the eyes and a trip well worth taking. The show is open year-round from 09:00 to 18:00, with preferential policies for children under 1.2 meters (not including) admitted free of charge.
