Jieshi Qin-Han Site Complex in Huludao

The Jiashi Qin-Han Site Complex is located on the Zhi’an Bay beach in Wanjia Town, Suizhong County, Huludao City. This site complex spans 4 kilometers from north to south and 3.5 kilometers along the coast from east to west, covering an area of 14 square kilometers. It includes six large palace sites distributed in various locations such as Shibei Di, Heishantou, Wazi Di, Jinsi Tun, Hongshi Lazi, and Zhoujia Nanshan.
Among the six sites, the Jieshi Palace site is the largest and has been identified as the place where Emperor Qin Shi Huang stayed during his eastern tour to Jiashi. It is the main structure of the entire site complex. The overall layout is rectangular, with a length of 500 meters from north to south and a width of 300 meters from east to west, occupying an area of 150,000 square meters. The complex is surrounded by rammed earth walls, with a base width of 2.8 meters and steep inner and outer walls.

The Jieshi Palace is built on a high rammed earth platform in Shibei Di. The three-dimensional architecture of the site is close to the coastline, with the remaining rammed earth platform reaching a height of 8 meters, a base side length of 40 meters, and half of it submerged underground, making it a grand multi-level platform structure. The wings of the three-dimensional architecture feature corner towers, and there are batches of buildings behind it. Except for the Qin capital Xianyang and the Han capital Chang’an, it is rare to see such large and orderly arranged palace complexes.

The architectural tiles unearthed here, known as ‘Dang Tou’, are characterized by a large semicircular top and a high-relief pattern on the front, with a diameter of 54 centimeters, a height of 37 centimeters, and an overall length of 68 centimeters, earning the title of ‘Tile King’. The standardization of the pattern is rare in the country. The size of the rooms, drainage systems, and food storage wells in the two-thousand-year-old palace are all clearly visible.

The site is open all year round, accessible 24/7.
