Erwang Temple, a memorial dedicated to Li Bing and his son, the founders of the Dujiangyan irrigation system, is located on the hillside along the right bank of the Min River. The temple, with its tranquil environment facing the water and backed by mountains, was originally a shrine for the Shu King, later changed to honor Li Bing and his son. After the Song Dynasty, Li Bing and his son were ennobled as kings, hence the name ‘Erwang Temple’. Initially constructed during the Northern and Southern Dynasties, the existing structure is a Qing Dynasty reconstruction.
Embedded in the stone walls of Erwang Temple are maxims on flood control by Li Bing and his descendants, known as the ‘Three-Character Flood Control Scripture’: ‘Deep dredging, low embankment’. The temple also houses statues of Li Bing and his son, Erlang. Adjacent to the main hall, there is a teahouse built on stilts, hanging over the cliff, where visitors can enjoy tea. On the right side of the rear hall are steles by artists such as Zhang Daqian and Xu Beihong.
