Dynamic Balance in Art: The ‘Xu Bu Yao Bai’ Exhibition

The ‘Xu Bu Yao Bai’ exhibition, curated from a selection of artworks in the A4 Art Museum’s collection, predominantly created after 2010, constructs a sense of dynamic balance in terms of material, method, and concept. It represents the artists’ attempts in exploring their personal styles and serves as a visual experiment that piques curiosity in subtle ways.
Viewing these works often comes with intellectual push and pull, hesitation: it seems to tell a story, but perhaps it’s a metaphor, or it might just be a display of aesthetics, or… The visual form materializes the artist’s ideas, while the reality before our eyes points to a more illusory imagination.

‘Xu Bu’ is a movement in martial arts, with the foot lightly touching the ground, between offense and defense. The suffix ‘Yao Bai’ disrupts the original intent of the movement, transforming the ambiguous stillness into a dynamic with a mix of reality and illusion, sounding like a dance step, but it remains just a movement – like what each of us does, every day, to keep ourselves moving, to find direction in motion, to find problems in direction, and to try to find answers in problems.

Open from December 28th to February 16th, with specific business hours subject to the day’s opening status.
