Dujiangyan Scenic Area Introduction

Dujiangyan Scenic Area is located on the main stream of the Minjiang River in the west of Dujiangyan City. It was built around 256 BC by Li Bing, the governor of Shu County in the Qin Dynasty, and his son. It is currently the best-preserved ancient water conservancy project in China.
The project consists of three main projects, namely the Yuzui Diversion Dam, the Feisha Weir Spillway, and the Baopingkou Water Inlet, as well as auxiliary projects such as the Baizhang Dyke and the Renzi Dyke. It divides the surging Minjiang River into the Outer River and the Inner River. The Outer River is for flood discharge, and the Inner River is for water diversion and irrigation, making the Western Sichuan Plain become the “Land of Abundance”.

The beautiful natural scenery of Dujiangyan, with its vast clear water, dangerous cliffs, strange peaks, and towering ancient trees, as well as its profound cultural heritage, makes it worthy of being a world scenic spot.

There are many famous scenic spots, including Nanqiao Bridge, Lidui Ancient Garden, Sleeping Iron, Yangong Road, Zhang Song Ginkgo Tree, Qingxi Garden, Fulongguan Temple, the three main projects of the Dujiangyan Diversion Headwork (Yuzui Diversion Dam, Feisha Weir Spillway, Baopingkou Water Inlet), Anlan Bridge, Erwang Temple, Qinyan Tower, Songmao Ancient Road, Xiuzhijing’s Deeds of Governing Water Memorial Archway, Yuwang Palace, Yuleiguan Pass, Fengqiwo, Douxi Platform, Xuanwei Gate, Chenghuang Temple, etc.
