Dashi Lake Scenic Area is located on the west side of Yiwulu Mountain, within Nianpangou, Waziyu Town, Yixian County. The touring area covers 437 hectares.
The natural scenery in the scenic area is magnificent and beautiful. It is a rare landscape wonder in the arid area of western Liaoning and a well-known Buddhist holy land in the northwest of Liaoning. Whenever summer comes, when tourists walk along the winding mountain road and enter Dashi Lake, they can hear from afar the ‘rumbling’ sound of the waterfall falling from more than 30 meters above the mountaintop. Below the waterfall is a deep pool covering hundreds of square meters. The water quality is crystal clear, and it is cool and pleasant. Surrounded by mountains, with lush vegetation, singing birds and fragrant flowers, the fresh and beautiful natural scenery makes people reluctant to leave.
In recent years, the local government and people have carried out large-scale development and construction of Dashi Lake Scenic Area. Relying on Dashi Lake, tourist and religious places such as Shuanglong Temple have been built, developing new tourist attractions for the scenic area and attracting more and more tourists to come here for leisure vacations, summer escapes and sightseeing. Feilong Waterfall is the iconic landscape of Dashi Lake Scenic Area.
The peak of the waterfall is 829 meters above sea level, which is the second highest peak of Yiwulu Mountain. Due to the lush forest vegetation in the upper part and the wide water collection area, its water source never dries up throughout the year. The waterfall drop is about 62.5 meters, and the water surface is 5 meters wide. In the midsummer rainy season, the waterfall rushes down along the steep cliffs, just like a silver curtain hanging down, with flying beads and splashing jade, and the sound is like thunder.
Dashi Lake is formed by connecting three unique alpine lakes (Tianhu Lake, Xuanhu Lake and Dihu Lake). There are also more than 30 main natural landscapes such as Shuanglong Ridge, Shenhou Peeping at Fruits, Longma Peak and Lianhua Peak. Shuanglong Temple was first built in the Ming Dynasty. The Buddhist activities were prosperous, and there were many monks and believers. Now the temple has been restored and constructed. Historical relics such as the forest of pagodas, steles and Shuanglong stone carvings are still preserved in the scenic area. There are still many beautiful legends circulating here, with unique historical and cultural connotations.
Dashi Lake Scenic Area is rich in biological resources. There is a ‘natural Chinese pine forest unique to East Asia’ distributed here, and a ‘relatively complete coniferous and broad-leaved mixed forest existing in the North China flora’ is also preserved. There are 77 species of key protected animals, among which rare birds include black storks, red-crowned cranes, swans, mandarin ducks, etc. It is a species ‘gene bank’ in western Liaoning. The lush forest, good vegetation and biodiversity here make Dashi Lake Scenic Area an ideal place for sightseeing, summer escapes, forest exploration and scientific investigations.
