Chongxing Temple Twin Pagodas – A Historical Landmark in BeiZhen City

Chongxing Temple Twin Pagodas are located in front of the Chongxing Temple in the northeast corner of BeiZhen City, representing two parallel-standing ancient Liao Dynasty pagodas. They are known for their consistent architectural style, elegant and slender appearance, and are designated as provincial cultural relics protection units.
The Twin Pagodas are 43 meters apart from east to west, with the eastern pagoda standing at 43 meters and the western one at 42 meters tall, both featuring an octagonal thirteen-story eave-style solid brick structure. Each base measures 7 meters on each side, adorned with various patterns, with the lower part featuring sculptures of lions, bearers, and lotus petals. Above, the pagodas are supported by an upturned lotus seat, which carries the pagoda body. Each face of the body has an arched niche, with seated Buddhas inside, flanked by attendants outside, and decorated with canopies, flying celestial beings, and bronze mirrors.

The twelve layers of eaves gradually recede from bottom to top, with wind chimes hanging at each eave corner, producing a crisp and pleasant sound when swayed by the wind. The top of the pagodas, including the lotus seat, treasure vase, gilded finial rod, beads, and rings, are all well-preserved. In the middle of the western pagoda, there is a small stone tablet inscribed with the ‘Record of Renovation of Chongxing Temple Pagodas’ from the 28th year of the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty (1600 AD).
