The Chengdu Dongmen City Wall Ruins are located on Qinglian Shang Street, with a stele written by Liu Shahe nearby. Before the urban renovation, a small section of the old city wall from the Ming and Qing dynasties was still visible, including the protruding ‘horse face’ structures. It is said that in ancient times, to increase the shooting surface for archers to kill enemy forces attacking the city, a semi-fortress structure protruding from the city wall was built at regular intervals, commonly known as ‘horse face’. During the restoration of the remnants of the broken wall, the remaining ‘horse face’ structures were also restored. The site is open all year round, with full-day access.
