Baita Yu Pagoda, commonly known as the Octagonal Exquisite Pagoda or the Nine-Dragon Smoke Pagoda, is one of the eight ancient scenic spots in Xingcheng. It is located on a hill in the south of Jiulong Mountain, at Ta Gou Village, Bai Ta Township, Xingcheng City, Liaoning Province. Surrounded by peculiar peaks and converging springs, the area becomes mystical during rainy days with mist and clouds drifting over the top of Jiulong Mountain, making one feel as if they have entered a fairyland.
This brick pagoda from the Liao Dynasty features a unique design and intricate structure. Baita Yu Pagoda is a typical example of the Liao Dynasty’s multi-eave tower characteristics. The pagoda is hollow inside, with a sequence from bottom to top of the underground palace, middle palace, and heavenly palace. Unfortunately, the cultural relics in the underground palace were plundered in the early years. The pagoda is divided into four parts from bottom to top: the base, the body, the multi-eaves, and the top.
The pagoda is open all year round, with full-day access.
