Baita Lake: A Scenic Oasis in Chengdu, Sichuan

Baita Lake, named after the White Pagoda from the Sui Dynasty, is located in the renowned ‘Hometown of Chinese Bamboo Weaving’, Dao Ming Town. Surrounded by mountains and waters, it boasts boundless green waves. In the lake, you might see cranes lightly touching the water while singing, wild ducks startlingly taking flight, or thousands of migratory birds floating on the lake surface, playing with visitors in the waves; on the eastern hilltop of the lake stands the Bai Ta Chan Monastery, with towering ancient trees and thriving incense.

On the central island of the lake, there are an ancient fortress and temple commemorating Yang Yuchun, a patriotic general of the Qing Dynasty and the Governor of Shaanxi and Gansu, who was honored as the First-Class Zhao Yong Marquis. The Changmagou Ecological Agricultural Sightseeing Area is a national afforestation demonstration base. Originally a sacred Buddhist site, on the eastern side of Bai Ta Lake Mountain, there stands the Sari Pagoda (White Pagoda) and Bai Ta Chan Monastery, which were first constructed during the Sui Dynasty.

The old Bai Ta Chan Monastery had 78 temple buildings, a grand scale, towering ancient trees, and thriving incense. Today, the tide of people worshipping Buddha is still strong, with tens of thousands gathering during temple fairs. Centered around Bai Ta Chan Monastery, the surrounding mountains, rivers, and islands are imbued with a strong Buddhist flavor. Now, new leisure scenes and memorial facilities have been built on the hills around the lake and on the central islands, including harbors full of poetic charm, the wooden fish island retaining Buddhist colors, Yang Hou Island commemorating the national hero Yang Yuchun, and Diaoyu Island for fishing enthusiasts to enjoy.

Each with its unique charm and elegance, they can be considered a secluded paradise away from the mundane world. Open all year round, accessible 24/7.
