Anren Old Street: A Cultural and Leisure Haven

Anren Old Street is primarily located at the heart of the ancient town, including Shuren Street, Hongxing Street, and Yumin Street. Here, 14 old mansions built during the Republic of China period are concentrated. Several of these mansions have been transformed into museums such as a Costume Museum, an Ethnology Museum, and an Old Movie Museum, all open to visitors free of charge. Cui Yongyuan’s Legendary Movie Museum is also situated here. Some of the mansions have been turned into leisure venues, and local Chengdu artists and poets have opened galleries and bookstores in this area. The deep sense of nostalgia combined with such an artistic atmosphere has attracted many literary and artistic youths.
In addition to these, one can experience the same simplicity and leisure as in other ancient towns in Sichuan on Anren Old Street. When tired from strolling, one can sit down at a street-side shop to enjoy a bowl of local special brown sugar tangyuan, or watch an old movie at the Anren Theater. On sunny days, one might opt for a street-side bar to order a cup of coffee and daydream. These old streets often appear in TV dramas and movies, and with luck, one might witness a film crew shooting on location, offering the chance to be an extra. Opening hours and business status are subject to the daily situation.
