The exact year when the “Chehan Five King Mansion” was first built is unknown. Inside, there are statues of Lord Ji, Lord Yang, Lord Wen, Lord Da, and Lord Li enshrined. Exactly what identities the five kings had and why they are enshrined here are no longer known, but there are quite a few folk legends. According to records, it is said that these five kings were shipwrecked at sea. Later, whenever a ship was in distress in Quanzhou Bay and the nearby strait, the five kings would pilot the “Jin Zaixing” king ship to help them out and guide them. Therefore, the “Five King Mansion” in Hanjiang is also known as the “Protector God of the Strait”.
