Puguang Temple is located on the hillside of Hongshanbing, Xilin, Lianqian Avenue, Siming District, Xiamen City, Fujian Province. In ancient times, it was called Jinji Pavilion. Now, a major road has been opened in the crack of the hillside, leading to the airport and the International Convention and Exhibition Center.
The temple is located beside Wolong Mountain. In the early Ming Dynasty, it was a rain shelter beside an ancient rural path and an post station at the Wutong intersection leading to the inland of Tong’an. There is a natural strange rock beside the path, shaped like a golden rooster standing on one leg. When pedestrians stop here, at dawn, they can hear the crowing of cocks in the surrounding rural villages one after another, which is thought-provoking. Affected by this scene, it has the beautiful name of “The Golden Rooster’s Morning Song” and is listed as one of the “Eight Scenes of Xiamen”. Later, a monk enshrined the Avalokitesvara in the pavilion, so it is also called “Guanyin Pavilion”.
