Petrified wood is formed when prehistoric trees are buried by volcanic ash, and all the organic matter of the trees is replaced by silica, thus creating the petrified wood we see today.
The Kingdom of Petrified Wood, located within the Benxi Water Cave Scenic Area, covers an area of 11.6 hectares.
