The Kingdom of Petrified Wood in Benxi, Liaoning

Petrified wood is formed when prehistoric trees are buried by volcanic ash, and all the organic matter of the trees is replaced by silica, thus creating the petrified wood we see today.
The Kingdom of Petrified Wood, located within the Benxi Water Cave Scenic Area, covers an area of 11.6 hectares. It consists of nine functional areas, including the Petrified Wood Exquisite Square, Jungle Adventure, Leisure Square, Fun House, Dinosaur Exploration, Dinosaur Extinction, Dinosaur Door Opening, Petrified Wood Carnival Square, and Volcanic Karst Observation Area. It combines entertainment, fun, participation, knowledge, novelty, competitiveness, excitement, and popular science elements.


The “Kingdom of Petrified Wood” is a tourist scenic area themed around petrified wood that dates back 140 million years. The more than 500 petrified wood exhibits on display in the kingdom can be regarded as a human treasure with the largest collection, largest volume, oldest age, and highest research value in the world to date.
