Baota Temple is located in Xiaota Village, Haoguanton Township, Kangping County, Shenyang City. In 1988, it was designated as a provincial cultural relic protection unit together with the adjacent ‘Qizhou City Ruins’. The temple faces the Liao River to the east. It was built between 922 and 926 AD (during the Liao Dynasty).
The ancient pagoda within the temple is a solid, octagonal, thirteen-story structure made of blue bricks. During the Xianfeng period of the Qing Dynasty, the temple was renovated and expanded, covering an area of 30 acres. It features a four-storied main hall (consisting of the Erma Hall, Guanlao Hall, Niangniang Hall, and the rear hall being the Sanfo Hall), a three-deep temple complex, and includes a bell tower and a drum tower. In the Tongzhi period (1862), additional constructions were added. It was once very prosperous with a thriving incense offering. There was a temple fair in front of the temple. The temple is open all year round, accessible 24/7.
