Over 90 Years of History at Southwest China’s Museum

This museum, with a history of over ninety years, is one of the earlier established museums in the Southwest region and is also one of the oldest museums in China. The predecessor of the museum, the Antiquities Museum of West China Union University, began its construction in 1914. By the 1940s, it had grown into a museum of considerable size. Today, the museum spans four floors and houses a collection that includes ethnic, folk, calligraphy, stone carvings, and artifacts from the Sanxingdui site. It also possesses two well-preserved bridal sedan chairs. The museum is open all year round from Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00-17:00. It is closed on Mondays, except for national holidays.
