The Remains of Mao Mao Temple in Chengdu

The remains of Mao Mao Temple are located in Wuhou District, Chengdu. Existing buildings include the mountain gate, the main hall, and the second hall. This building complex faces north and sits south, adopting the commonly used dougong timber structure in western Sichuan. The so-called “Mao Mao” actually refers to tigers. Tigers were enshrined here at that time, while the Taishang Laojun was enshrined in the third hall.

From the enshrinement of the Taishang Laojun and the Taiji diagram on the purlin, it can be seen that this Mao Mao Temple is a Taoist building. According to historical records, the Mao Mao Temple once covered an area of 10 mu. Later, it was occupied by some local gentry. Some even rented it out for profit. As a result, the Mao Mao Temple gradually lost its original meaning and function and became a residential area.

Open time: Open 24/7 throughout the year.
