Za’gyain Zaga Sacred Mountain – A Spiritual Destination in Jiuzhaigou, Sichuan

Za’gyain Zaga Sacred Mountain, standing at an altitude of 4400 meters, towers at the end of the Zaru Horse Path. It is said that this sacred mountain is the lord of all mountains, and the circumambulation and worship on the 15th day of each lunar month, as well as the Mazhi Festival on March 15th, are all held here. Devotees gather in groups, some on horseback and some on foot, moving counterclockwise around the sacred mountain to pray for blessings from the deities.
Near Za’gyain Zaga Sacred Mountain, there are many scenic spots. Close by are the Zaru Waterfall and the Red Pond. The Zaru Waterfall is located in the dense forest on the mountainside of the sacred mountain. The waterfall emerges from the forest, plunges off a cliff, and is intercepted by four steps, forming a four-tiered waterfall. The Tibetan people in Jiuzhaigou regard it as sacred water.

The Red Pond, named for the surrounding red soil, is located under a ridge on the mountain road that encircles the sacred mountain. It is considered a sacred pond by the Tibetans.

The Zaru Forest Path is located above the Zaru Bridge on the mountain road. The path is approximately 500 meters long, covered with dense pine needles, with a faint scent of pine, and offers a secluded and winding path, making it an excellent place for a forest walk.
