Ganhaizi, scientifically known as Fangcaohai, is located at the junction of Songpan County and Jiuzhaigou County on Gonggangling. Originally a high mountain lake, it was later referred to as ‘Ganhaizi’ by locals due to geological changes that expanded the outlet. However, contrary to its name, Ganhaizi is not dry. Surrounded by layered mountains and dense forests, the lake is filled with meandering streams and lush grass, resembling a velvet carpet covering the earth. In summer and autumn, wildflowers embellish the landscape, with herds of cattle, sheep, and mules, while in winter and spring, the area turns a deep yellow, contrasting beautifully with the surrounding snow-capped mountains and red leaves. Consequently, it has gradually been renamed to ‘Ganhaizi’.
The Ganhaizi Scenic Area comprises a group of lakes including Jinxiniuhai, Fangcaohai, and Jiuqucaihe. Centered around these lakes, the surrounding high mountain gorges feature dense river and waterfall distributions, lush primeval forests, and distinct vertical zonal spectra of alpine plants. It is situated between the Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong scenic spots, offering convenient transportation, a large range of activities, and abundant scenic resources.
