Jinli Ancient Street: A Cultural and Historical Destination in Chengdu

Jinli, restored and constructed by the Wuhou Shrine Museum in Chengdu, is part of the Wuhou Shrine complex which includes the historical site of the Three Kingdoms, the Jinli folk area, and the West District. The street spans a total length of 550 meters. It is now a pedestrian commercial street in Chengdu, featuring ancient architectural styles from the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China, with a focus on the culture of the Three Kingdoms and traditional Sichuan folk culture.

The layout of the ancient street is rigorous and orderly, with distinct areas for bars and entertainment, famous Sichuan snacks, government inns, and specialty tourist craft sales. Jinli officially opened to the public in October 2004, and its extension, Jinli Phase II (Waterside Jinli), began welcoming visitors in January 2009. As one of the cultural cards of Chengdu, Jinli Ancient Street has completed its upgrade.

Relying on the Wuhou Shrine, the phrase ‘worship at Wuhou Shrine, soak in Jinli’ has become one of the most appealing slogans for tourism in Chengdu. In 2005, Jinli was selected as one of the ‘Top Ten Urban Commercial Pedestrian Streets’ in China, alongside well-known streets such as Beijing’s Wangfujing, Wuhan’s Jianghan Road, Chongqing’s Liberation Monument, and Tianjin’s Heping Road, earning the title ‘First Street of Western Shu’ and being hailed as the ‘Chengdu version of the Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival’.

It is open all year round with 24-hour access, subject to the specific business status on the day.
