Sichuan Opera Show – The Legendary Face-Changing

Sichuan Opera Show – The Legendary Face-Changing is a large-scale stage show that is the first of its kind in China. Taking Sichuan opera elements as the main body, it integrates acrobatics, dance, magic, etc. It uses modern audio, lighting and electro-technical means and fashionable artistic methods to display the local customs and practices of Chengdu.
The performance takes Sichuan opera as the core element. While maintaining the artistic characteristics of singing, reciting, sitting, fighting and special skills in Sichuan opera, it innovatively integrates other art forms such as acrobatics, dance, magic and shadow puppetry, strengthening the artistic tension of Sichuan opera and enhancing the shock power of the Sichuan opera performance from multiple viewpoints and angles. Especially, it has made bold explorations in the audio-visual and appreciation aspects of Sichuan opera, making it suitable for audiences of all ages.

Sichuan Opera Show – The Legendary Face-Changing conveys the development process of the special face-changing skill in Sichuan opera through the main character line in the story. The story takes place in the site of “Sanqinghui” in Chengdu, one of the birthplaces of Sichuan opera (the location of the current “Jinjiang Theatre”). “Little Sanqing”, who loves Sichuan opera, practices hard. The master decides to take Sanqing as an apprentice.

The beautiful “Little Wanhua” has a crush on “Little Sanqing”, and they fall in love with each other. The domineering “Young Master Ma” tries to take “Little Wanhua” away by force and orders people to spit fire and burn “Little Sanqing”‘s face. “Little Sanqing” has to wander the streets wearing a mask, but secretly practices the face-changing skill hard. Finally, he can complete eight consecutive face-changes in one go and becomes a master of face-changing.

“Little Wanhua” goes through many hardships and finally finds “Little Sanqing”. The two of them shine on the Sichuan opera stage together. The story of these two characters condenses the century-long history of Sichuan opera people.
